Registration

We had our coaches meeting and set registration for 6p.m. October 6, 2009 at the Masonic Lodge (Pinal Lodge #30) 1140 E Florence Blvd, Casa Grande, AZ 85122-4216.
Registration fees will once again be $50 and the program will be similar to past years with only minor changes. All athletes will be coached by certified Arizona Game and Fish Youth Shotgun Instructors who are committed to:
  • Provide a team based youth development program using the shotgun sports to instill discipline, safety, teamwork, ethics, self-confidence and other life values.
  • Provide a quality educational experience in Shotgun Sports to youth aged 9 though graduation of high school.
  • Provide youth with quality educational instruction on a limited basis.
  • Provide youth with the necessary equipment, on a loaner basis, to participate in the program.
  • Provide youth with the opportunity to participate in local, state and national competitions.

At the meeting we discussed that the Club needs to practice as a team at our home club. We went over the calendar of events, goals, safety rules and fun shoots. We then decided that the wind wasn't really blowing that hard and burned a little powder. It was great to see the coaches actually having a little fun. Every coach there walked away from the firing line with a smile. Fun was had by all!

07-08 Registration

Hi All,

Central Arizona Target Shooting (CATS) will once again offer the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) for all children ages 9-19. We have 14 practices scheduled at CATS where the atheletes will learn safe gun handling fundamentals, practices and techniques from certified Arizona Game and Fish Youth Shotgun Coaches. The atheletes will be exposed to the various techniques involved in shooting clay targets and proper course ettiquette along with proper gun care. Arizona Game and Fish will have ten 1187 automatic shotguns available for our use and new participants to the program will receive eye, ear and head protection. In the past, Arizona Game and Fish fully funded this program but this year they are only partially funding the program. Based on last years participation we have to raise the fees to a minimum of $50 to cover the costs of ammo and targets. This is still an excellent value as the actual cost per athelete enrolled in the program is about $200 per child if they participate fully in every practice. Central Arizona Target Shooting was created only for this program and does not make any money on this program all the extra monies will be used to help with the State Shoots.

We will hold registration at the Masonic Lodge in Casa Grande on September 20 at 6:00 P.M.
The address is
Pinal Lodge #30
1140 E. Florence Blvd.
Casa Grande, Az.
It is located across the wall from Albertsons.

We will collect the $50 minimum, fill out the registration forms and answer any questions at this time. Additional information may be found on our blog

Check this regular as I will post any updates there.
If you have any further questions or concerns I can be reached at:

New shooters are welcome. (It's the only way the program will work for $50). So if you know anyone that has not done this program before encourage them to sign up!

CATS and all of our volunteer coaches look forward to once again working with the youth in the Shotgun Shooting Sports.

Safe Shooting,

Rodney Shedd
Lead Instructor

SCTP changes for 07-08 Season

Last year AZ Game and Fish Department sponsored the SCTP program for all athletes ages 9-19. They trained coaches, supplied 700 rounds of ammo, 700 targets for each athlete, provided automatic clay target throwers and furnished clubs with automatic 12 and 20 gauge shotguns. The only cost for the athletes was a $25 registration fee.

This year it is going to be different. Information is beginning to come in from AZ Game and Fish Dept. for the 07-08 program. They are changing the way the program is funded this year. In the past they provided shells and targets equally for all participants. However this year they are going to an all grant funding system. It is my understanding that they are still providing the guns and throwers for our club but not paying for the targets or supplying ammo. They are focused on first and second year participants. The club will receive full funding for first year athletes and only half the funding for second year athletes, while the athletes that have been in the program longer than that won't receive any additional funding. They are only providing enough funding for about 10 athletes that were in the program over 2 years. If you are interested in the SCTP program for the 07-08 season please contact me soon as possible so we can apply for the grants and try to get additional funding for the third year and older participants. I can be reached by e-mail at rodney@tiffanyshedd.com or phone 520 251 2024.

If you have any ideas, suggestions or thoughts on the above please contact me. I figure it will cost about $196 per athlete if they shoot all 700 targets.(28 boxes of shells@ $4.50/box and 700 targets @$0.10/target)
